I was trying to eat my lunch in peace today and get a little reading done, so I headed over to Burger King.
The Burger King in Thorndale used to be filled with retarded (and I mean this in the literal sense) workers that were always a little oogy to be eating around. I have on at least one occasion been given "the eye" by one of the less attractive girls working there. How do you respond to that? Anyway, Burger King has been a victim of the fast food revolving door, and they seem to have a less deformed staff employed there these days.
You know, all of this sounds pretty harsh, but it's the honest truth. There were retarded people working at Burger King, and they creeped me out by trying to flirt with me, ok? Sheesh.
To get back to my story- I was sitting there trying to read. And now that I'm reviewing this, it sound a whole lot less interesting than the past couple paragraphs, but there's this CD jukebox there that looks like one of those old-time jukeboxes with the bubbles streaming up the sides.
And it's playing Elvis music louder than I've ever heard anything play Elvis.
The music was so loud, that while sitting in a booth on the other side of the dining room I could feel the vibrations of the music shaking through the seat into my butt.
Yeah, I need to stop writing this now before my tongue slips any more.
So, yeah, it's really loud. And this guy sat at the booth behind mine, and I swear to you that he was trying to read my book over my shoulder while I'm eating my fries. What's that all about? Apparently just because the retarded folks don't work at BK any more, that doesn't mean that they don't eat there.
One of the workers was talking about his paroll office being located somewhere that was difficult to get to. He was saying this to a couple of the patrons, who looked like they just got off a construction job.
Besides the construction guys and the psycho in the booth behind me, a couple of teenage couples came in for some fries. Weird that both couples just got fries (a single order) and sodas, both sat at the same table (consecutively), and both arrived with some fuzzy creature attached to the girl's purse straps. Bears in the case of the first couple, and yellow chicks in the case of the second.
Surprisingly, I was able to order my food and observe all of this, and still I managed to read 40 pages of my book before returning to work. I'm amazed.
"One for the money, two for the show..." Stinking jukebox...
First of all, you need to realize that I never said anything about these retarded people being slow, just that they made inappropriate social contact with me. In fact, I would say that the service when the retarded people were working was just as good as with the non-retarded people. But just because a person has a disability doesn't mean they have the right to behave inappropriately. I shouldn't have to get up and walk out because they're encroaching on me, just as they shouldn't have to put up with people profaning them because of their disability, which incidentally, I never did.
If your sister is a retard, then your sister is a retard and there really isn't anything I can do to change your impression of the word if it bothers you. It's kind of like if you were an idiot and I called you an idiot - it might offend you to hear it, but that wouldn't make it any less true.
ok. First of all i think you need to realize that the so called "reatards" they are mentally challenged and they don't know any better and i think it is about time that somebody hires the people who are slower and if you didn't like it you have 2 feet and you could have got up and walked out.I really did not appreciate you saying that my sister is what you say a retard and that offends me alot.
I'm not upset that you're offended. "Mentally retarded" is "mentally disabled" isn't it?
Look, this isn't a clinical discussion of the behaviors of retarded people, or an attempt to garner sympathy for people with mental disabilities. This is me not appreciating one of the retarded people that works at Burger King hitting on me and writing about it in a style that I choose, not you.
I refuse to turn this web site into a politically correct tiptoe through your sensitive verbage sensibilities. I'm always polite to these folks, and I'm glad to see that they're able to find acceptance somewhere. But I'm not going to simply overlook the fact that the ones at Burger King are occasionally slobberingly stupid. Hell, sometimes even some of the "normal" people there are slobberingly stupid. Certainly, if I am amused by what happens to me at Burger King and I choose to write about it, you have just as much right to be offended by it as I have to speak about it in my own terms.
If you don't like what I say, you can kindly take your remarks over to your soapbox at Starbucks - where I hear they serve great coffee and have a lot less retards - and kindly leave mine alone.
That is really offensive. They are not retarded, they are mentally disabled. When you say someone is retarded it impies that they are slow, and also that you think you're better than them. If you have a problem with going there, why don't you go to a starbucks, where most people like to read.
Possibly interesting, if off topic, but a poster to alt.tasteless has a lot to say on the "retarded" issue and I'm inclined to agree.
It reminds me of when George Carlin refers to the softening of language by comparing WWI's shell shock to Vietnam's post traumatic stress disorder. Same condition but the latter doesn't sound as serious. Changing the name of the condition does absolutely nothing to change the nature of the condition.
I think I occasionally come off as a little acerbic if you read only one of my posts, particularly the ones where I write about retarded people, female drivers, polish folks, the guys at the DMV, losers on welfare, moronic politicians...
A broader read, however, will reveal that I hate everyone equally. Don't worry - everyone will get equal opportunity as a target of my ire here.
Just don't call them retards you fucking asshole.
Or what? You'll call me names? Nah, a retard is a retard. And you're starting to look like one now aren't you, with your now profanely loquacious tendencies? Oh, wait... I suddenly see the error of my ways and retract all of my retarded comments. Yes, that will make it all better for you, won't it?
Feh. Boredom with you sets in. And so does my IP blocker.
man, Owen, I just love how you get comments months and months after a post was originally posted ;-)
one for the money, two for the show.
i think im in love with whoever wrote this.
haha
i love BKKKKK
Hey there guys... I unfortunately work at burger king. I am a manager. And yes I do believe we are all a little retarded. Some people are actualy retarded and people like me... being of sound state of mind and body... still choose to work at burger king of our own free will... and a manager no less. I take no offense to you coments and I make the same comments of myself for continueing to return to work day in and day out. I cant wait to get a better job!!! lol!!!
Your song is hot.
Yeah, baby, my song is hotttt...
Wait! What am I talking about? What are you talking about? Who are all you people?? Aaahh!
It's nice to hear from people who don't react like retards to my writing. Good luck at Burger King, Nick- If the retards aren't working with you, they're ordering from you.
Not to stretch this bit out more but...Retarded simply mean that a persons growth and development is slower than others..It started as a clinical diagnosis but uneducated pretentious pratts (like you) have turned it into a description of any nerd or strange looking person. A lot of people with developmental disabilites (a better term) do work at menial jobs such as Burger King, the are trying to eek out some kind of quality of life.
People like you who may mistake simple eye contact or their curiosity for trying to hit on you just add to their problems.
I agree with the person who suggested you go to Starbucks - it's filled with pseudo - intelectuals like yourself.
The person I was writing about was not a nerd or strange looking. They had clear mental disabilities. They were retarded, even as you define it. I fail to see how "developmental disabilities" is different from "retardation", nor how the shorter, original term - which, oh, maybe I selected for the precise reason of its being a loaded word - could be the wrong one for the job.
I add to their problems because it's possible that I could misconstrue a freakin' blown kiss (a detail omitted in the original post, which is my right) as them being flirtatious? Ha! Good!
By all means, I'll head over to Starbucks directly. Finally, I've found a home for "pseudo-intelectuals[sic]" like myself who actually know how to spell "intellectual". I'm not sure what I was thinking in dining at Burger King, the playground of Mensa giants like yourself.
I absolutely love this guy... Not hitting on him or anything lol!!!!! I just don't understand the uproar against this person just speaking his opinion. Last time I checked that was allowed. Or have these pretentious pricks looking out for "challenged" people's rights stripped us of our basic rights as U.S. citizens. Come on people. I mean seriously. Lets concentrate on taking care of our own buisness and keep our noses out of others affairs.
hello , person who made this page i enjoyed reading it because it kept me entertand and busy i thought it was really funny an i had lots of fun watching you talk to the girl/or boy who said there sister was retared (witch you can't be sure she/or he's not)I'm sure she/or he is retared.Really , i dont think there is anything wrong with the word "Retared" its just a word used for mentaly challenged people as we all know, dah!
the poeple who are offended by it are rejects (No offense to them)and have no piont to me because its a god damn word whoop de do, get over it.
"Political correctness" is two words and you're free to subscribe to it. The thing is, it's a scam and a sham. You see, it gives people the promise (or premise?) of never offending anybody without ever having to think... as if offending somebody is A Bad Thing. If you can't offend people then you can't question or challenge anything. Welcome to the brave new world where everybody's right and nobody's a big meanie who says bad things!
It's only a matter of time before political correctness is extended to not questioning the actions of your government - you might offend one of your hard working representatives.
The thing is, Free speech is a lie. It's a smokescreen. You're not guaranteed it and can be locked away (or worse) for saying unpopular things (or even being an unpopular colour). It's also a fallacy in that there's nothing noble or desirable about it... Free speech doesn't demand any sort of responsibility from the speaker, as if you can say anything without consequence because you are "free" to do so. Could I horrendously insult everybody I meet and claim a right to free speech? Or should I have to take responsibility for my words just as I do for my actions?
Also, those of you who harp on about rights... they are rights, not obligations. Because you have a right to freedom of speech doesn't mean you have to babble incessantly just as the right to bare arms doesn't mean you are forced to buy armour piercing bullets and sniper scopes. I think a lot of people have the words "right" and "obligation" confused.
But then, I might be just "medically stupid", whatever that is.
I agree with the admin on mostly everything. i think what everyone is overacting about is when you say These Retards are Stupid, people think youre saying Every Retard is Stupid. WHen I mean stupid, I mean socially stupid, not medically stupid. You know.
Also, political correctness is another word for the suspension of free speech.
I cannot believe what I have read.
To begin, although I understand your need to avoid inappropriet social interaction I am just wondering if you had ever said anything to the employees to let them know you did not appreciate their communication...
If you didn't say anything then who's the guilty one?
Next, there are several types of disabilities and retardation, if that is indeed their their diagnosis. The thing most people have to realize is that if the injury or deformation is located in the brain then the disability does not solely effect their physical abilities, if at all.
A person with an injury or deformation of, say, their frontal lobes will have an uncontrollable reaction to particular stimuli. It is this reaction which needs to be accommodated under united states law.
The frontal lobes of the brain controll our ability to monitor and mediate our responses to stimuli. Lets say you pick up a cup of coffee and it's alittle hotter than you expected so your natural response might be to drop the cup immediately, however if you din't want to get coffee all over your clothes you might resist the automatic response untill you are able to set the coffee down on the table without spilling it.
surely this has happened to you at least once in your life. Now your urge to drop the coffee (say you get a little burn on your hand becuase you held on to the cup long enough) is do to I believe the part of thewas resisted by the medula. The ability to resist the automatic response is controlled by the frontal lobes.
The same is true for say holding your breath, like while under water or something... Damage to the frontal lobes will remove your ability to maintain control over this situation.
Maybe you yourself know how to interact and have to ability to defer gratifracation. However to believe that just because you can do something then everyone should be able to do the same is completely ludicrous.
Would you ever tell a person with no legs that just because they have no legs this is not an excuse to be in a wheelchair nor does it give a person the right to have a closer and larger parking space?
Maybe you should open your mind and realize that disability effects the whole person and can be psychological, psyical, genetic, aquired, or congenital. they all need to be accommodated.
In the 1960's their was much hatred toward people who were of a certain race and now it's of people with uncontrolable medical injuries.
I have documented this problem on www.nyseattle.com
check it out.
Well, it's interesting medicine that you present. I still think it fails the test of being resonable for two reasons.
First, there is no socially mandated rule of behavior for dropping hot coffee. An average person would clearly have understanding for a person who dropped their coffee because it was surprisingly too hot. Moreover, having a coffee spill on the front of your clothing is not wholly socially unacceptable, simply unfortunate. Note that the spill does not also involve drenching someone else in hot coffee, which is how you could relate this to my blown kisses experience.
Making unwanted and unprompted kissing gestures toward a stranger in the open is not socially acceptable. It's also not my job to reprimand someone for their inappropriate behavior. Strangely, the only thing going to come from me telling anyone about it is either a fired retarded girl or an annoyed server the next time I dine-in, both of which I can do without.
Second, I am not this person's employer, and I am entitled to act however I wish in response to their inappropriate actions. United States Law doesn't govern my disgust at being approached by this person, any more than it would my disgust at an unattractive not-retarded person who did the same.
If I had only encountered this person for the duration of their inappropriate actions, I might not have known what the cause was. But since I had been waited on before by this person, I knew the cause. In any case, I just blew her off and wrote about it here. You don't even see any "I hate retards" messages around, do you?
What you're saying is that if the person is not retarded then I can safely rant about it, but if they are retarded I have to be sensitive to their disability? "This girl came on to me at Wendy's the other day, and I would say more about it, but I saw she has a deformed left pinky toe, so I'll let her slide." Phooey!
It's weird how just a few lines about retards has caused the perpetual murmur on this post. I realize that people are going to have disabilities and I don't have a problem with that. But there is still a level of social decorum that I require for my own comfort; if they want me to be comfortable around them. I really don't see why I should be forced to accomodate someone who is going to drool on me or gesture at me inappropriately when I don't even know them.
Ok... Im going to say some stuff that might offend someone.. but I was raised with NON-politically correct parents that will call a retard a retard and a frog a frog.. because thats its name... We dont call a frog a Salientia because that is too much work we are lazy.. so calling a retard (or "tard" if you want to be really short about it) developmentally disabled...
I agree with the guy earlier who said that being politically correct is an infrigement of my free speech rights as an american. Hell even when i started writing this thing my girlfriend just said that im mean for calling them "retarded" when that is what the word is.. because she has a family member that is like that.. LIKE THAT GIVES HER THE RIGHT TO JUDGE ME!
Before politically correctness became "popular" and dont even try to argue with me because if you think back you will remember when People that were" Developmentally challenged" were called Metally RETARDED which the word RETARD came from. Its not mean.. your simply describing that person. Just like "indians" which i am.. were known as indians not American Natives..
People.. we have truely gone too far.. and I dont mind being known as a bad guy.
Oh and sorry.. everyone here knows they found this site for looking for the "Retarded Burger King" flash song.. its how i found it.. and yes.. i find it FUNNY!
Here is the site.. and dont pretend you didnt laugh http://www.funnyjunk.com/pages/burger.htm
Proof if proof be needed that humour is a subjective phenomenon. Well, I think this'll be my last comment here... I bet Owen gets a vein thing in his temple when there are new comments to moderate for this post ;)
Nah, no veins popping for this post, since I think the issue is pretty cut and dried. But the Canary Comment Testing post currently has over 200 comments in moderation, most of which say either "test" or "asdf". Gah!
fucking jerks...you have no idea do you...owen you are probably one of those twats that wants to keep all "retards" as you call them in institutions and out of sight out of mind, you really are one freak of a human being. And dont deserve your place here on earth you wanker!!! maybe you would understand if you checked out www.mencap.org.uk
Indeed, keeping corralled all of those people who make unwanted advances toward me would suit me fine. Please start on that project right away. As a matter of fact, everyone who insists on imposing their beliefs on my behavior should join them.
I'm not one to go against the grain on many socially agreed-upon issues, but the difference between you and me is that I don't care if you welcome sloppy kisses from retarded workers at Burger King. Whereas you would force me to accept any advance from any retarded girl on the basis that she can't help herself.
That and I'm not usually profane when I write to people I don't know. Small detail.
Some might say that the real problem here is that I'm irrisistable to women. Anyone want to back me up on that?
::Yawn::
I think I've covered any issue you have with my use of the word "retarded" with the many comments I've left above.
Feel free to review them.
I don't understand that you just have to call ppl retards when the correct term is mentally retarded!! My cousin is the most loveable, funny, happy little girl i have ever seen! I think you should be more aware of the seriousness of these diseases that cause mental disabilities and be more appreciative of these people who are forced to fight for their own lives each day. They are NOT retards, which is a very unnecessary word to call someone with disabilities! In case you haven't noticed you are being very offensive to millions of ppl and is basically racist!!!!!! Please dont call ppl retards!!
I agree totally with Owen, Yes even here in sunny England!! we are feeling the pinch of political correctness.
Nobody on this earth has the right to invade anothers time or space if the attention is unwanted, and that also includes people who for Whatever reason 'cannot help themselves'.
If it is the case that these people cannot conduct themselves acceptably in public then they should be supervised, and ultimate responsibility would therefore lie with their carer/guardian.
I am sypathetic to the plight of those who are 'less fortunate'(if thats politically correct) but also, like Owen, would appreciate being able to go about my own business without unwanted interference
I would also like to point out the fact that many violent assaults are carried out by people who could be considered as having 'developmental disabilities', does this then mean that victims should just be 'more understanding?' and are we to let these crimes go unpunished?.
ive had one of those days....
