Broke my E-string

My CD collection is all blocked away with stuff in the basement from the repairs we're doing down there, so i downloaded Matthew Sweet's "Sick of Myself" (my copy is not this poor - WMA9pro) on a whim. I had the window open and somehow managed to click on the "M"s (don't ask me, I don't know).

After I downloaded it and played a minute or two of it, I looked over to my left and saw the guitar and remembered that it was Matthew Sweet (among some others) that had originally spawned my interest in guitar at all. I picked up the guitar and started to play a little. And I sucked, as usual. Sucked so bad, in fact, that I broke my E string trying to play a D chord. Bah.

So if anyone knows the process (and I suspect that I might have one reader who does) required to most easily fix my poor busted guitar, I'd be much abliged. Right now, I'm going to download some more Matthew Sweet and perhaps some Steve Vai.

Yes, I know. Hopelessly optimistic.

I've actually never broken a string (or replaced mine), so I can't help you. I probably should, actually, but they still hold a note pretty well. If you find out, let me know.

If you look on the internet, there seem to be tons of guides.

There must be something on one end of a guitar string to keep it anchored because the instructions for attaching the string to the bottom end (boy, you can tell I took time to learn anything about this instrument) of the guitar are non-existant. It must be so easy to do that instructions for it become irrelevant after you've seen the string and the guitar sitting together.

At this point, I don't even know how to remove the broken bit of string that's still on the bottom half of the guitar.

They mostly seem to be about acoustic guitars: http://www.guitartips.addr.com/tip142.html

Well i just bought a guitar and with my amazing talent managed to break my D string in only half an hour. Well what can i say i'm a natural eh? Hey im only 13 ill learn eventually! Anyway i would like to kno how to fix it also, or if i can't fix it myself how much it would cost to get it fixed(note:i have a replacement string already). I think we should start a horribly untalented association(HUA)lol. Well i have to try and figure this out so see ya!

It's coincidental that you asked about this because I just fixed my guitar! Check out my most recent post which is all about how I went about it restringing my guitar and provides a link to a good site about winding the strings.
