Trying out AdBrite

I'm going to give AdBrite a go and see how it works out. Anyone can advertise on this site, which is currently listed as one of the top 60,000 visited sites in Alexa. If my content is a good target for your advertising, click the link and see what you can get.

If AdBrite doesn't work out, I may switch back to Google. I'll be sure to report on the success or failure either way.

Owen, I'm seeing quite a few adult-related advertisements in the new AdBrite banners. For example, look at your iPod post to see free girls doing ... stuff ...

It's about time there was some adult content around here. ;)

I'll check into it... But I might not change anything. 8-)

You can turn off AdBrite's adult ads if you wish. My account -> Manage zones

    You're welcome :)

Did Google win? I noticed you've switched back.

Hmm. I liked that AdBrite let me sell my own ads.

I dislike that AdBrite doesn't seem to differentiate content channels by hits per keyword. For example, if you search for "blogging" in pretty much any search engine, my site will appear closer to the top than any of the sites listed at AdBrite with more hits.

There is no way to convey to a potential advertiser that my 800-1000 page views per day (on a special single page) are going to be a better use of their blogging advertising dollar than spending it on the site that has 100k hits per day that sells flowers via affiliate links.

Google, on the other hand, now seems to be targetting my ads much better than it was three months ago. It was really bugging me that I would write a good post on something with concrete advertising potential, and yet get that page saddled with a generic "blog" ad. It doesn't seem to do that as often now.

Of course, looking at the ad currently on this page, I'm not shocked to see "blogging" as the topic.

    Sigh.
