For the Meek

It's difficult to get even hardcore developers to patch experimental/prototype features. To make it easier to see what I'm talking about, and possibly tempt them into trying it, I've made a screenshot.

This isn't committed, this is only currently available in a patch to 1.6. I'm really waiting for comments on the UI and the functionality of the patch.

It looks quite good, Owen. I can't wait to use 1.6 once it hits stable release.

May I make a suggestion on roles, however? To avoid simply relabeling the limiting nature of user levels into roles, allow customization of permissions via the admin panel. Allow the "Publisher" or Admin account to select which role or user has which permissions. Some blogs may want User X to be able to edit themes, but not be able to touch plugins or adjust other user levels.

As far as UI, I should think a set of categorized radio buttons or checkboxes would work best. For example:
    User X Can: Posts [ ] Write [ ] Edit Timestamp [ ] Edit Own [ ] Delete Own [ ] Edit Others' [ ] Delete Others'
