Hot Car

I was thinking that it was pretty freakin' hot around here today. I confirmed this fact when I noticed the temperature guage in my car on the way back into work from lunch.

I took this picture after I stopped. Just before I left, it was 107!

I tried this test to see if I could send chocolate to Kuwait. I bought a thermos and put in my handy dandy Radio Shack minimum/maximum thermometer. Sealed it up and laid it on dash between the steering wheel. Thought it would simulate the weather there...it broke my thermometer! It gets hot in cars! Crap...I just noticed in your picture that was the outside temp! Was it really that hot today? And I was outside today too...

I think that my car lies a little. I'm not sure where exactly the sensor is for the thermometer, but I think it's somewhere close to the underside of a surface that's exposed to the sun. So it might get a little hotter than the actual air temperature. Even so, you can imagine if it was around that hot outside the car, it was even hotter inside. Pat pointed out something interesting to me when he was home last. You shouldn't leave a computer in the car in direct sunlight, but if you do and it's in a case, it has a better chance of survival because the case helps spread out the heat, rather than hitting the computer directly. So it probably didn't get as hot inside the thermos as it would have sitting in the same place but in the direct sun!
