viliv

I know, it's popular to say something is an iPod killer, even though we all know nothing will kill the iPod. And yet, the viliv is a mighty cool PVP.

Interesting that I couldn't find one picture of the UI on that thing... though it does look very cool.

The Xtreme Computing review has some shots of it.

I hate Flash sites where you can't turn off the damn music!

Anyway, the one feature that intrigues me above all others is the built-in CF card slot.

I like the CF feature, too. I wonder if there is a facility to copy the photos from the CF card to the Viliv hard drive. That would be awesome for vacationing, where I tend to take 8 pictures of everything, and run out of space pretty quickly. With this, I could offload the CF card in transit without having to tote my notebook around, too. Of course, I could always buy more memory. Hmm.

What really jazzes me is the FM transmitter. I have a transmitter in the car for use with my Zen Micro, but it's a pain having to hook it up and turn it on and make sure everything's set just right. One device.

Now if they could stuff all of this into a high-bandwidth cell phone with a web browser, bluetooth, wifi, and a 5-megapixel camera, that would be nice.

I have the connector for my Canon Rebel XT to download my photos to my video iPod. It works well, but it really sucks the battery dry, I can tell you that. If the viliv would connect without having to remove the CF card, it would be even more desirable.
