I don't know if I had mentioned this before. I say it frequently enough, so you might have heard me talking about it. The bottom line is this: I'm evil.
I used to think I was marginally "good", but you know what? It's hard work and doesn't really pay off. So I've just given up on the idea altogether. What does this mean for you?
Well, evil isn't always as rotten as it might seem. I mean, evil inspires self-interest. So for example, if I was walking behind you and you passed out - for lack of any good premise - I might still provide assistance, but not for your sake. Instead, any aid would be motivated by wanting to remain innocent of charges that I caused the incident.
I bring all of this up because I was being evil to the kids tonight at dinner. more
Three of Berta's sisters came in from out of town to visit last weekend, and in trying to come up with something to do, we decided on a more seasonal activity - a corn maze.
Rocky's Corn Maze is in Parkesburg, just before the end of the route 30 bypass. If you take the bypass to route 10, you'll have to turn around and go about 300 yards. Look out for the small sign on the left side of the road, or you'll zip right past it.
There aren't many attractions at Rocky's but the people are friendly. There were a few animals that you could feed, including goats, chickens, and pigs. And some other animals were there just to see, a horse, a donkey, and two baby calves that they fed milk from giant bottles while we were there. In all, not too fascinating for folks that are used to this kind of thing, but interesting enough for us suburbanites.
The hay ride was a slight disappointment, traveling only to a small deserted "pumpkin patch" seeded with fresh pumpkins that obviously didn't grow there. But the main attraction was the amazing corn maze. more
I told Berta that I was pleased with the business of the weekend, but I'm not sure she understood what I was talking about. After all, we've been busy every weekend almost nonstop since Spring, so why would being busy this weekend please me? Because it wasn't all work.
Saturday, out of the blue, Bob called. He says they've found a buyer for his house, and he's got to move out by Tuesday. He had called Dave and Jenn a month ago about taking his roleplaying stuff so he wouldn't have to haul it to Idaho or Utah or some sadly distant and obscure mountain state. Of course, Jenn grabbed the miniatures and then they were never heard from about the books. So he called me.
I had a ton of boxes left over from our move, and was glad to pass them on to someone who could use them. Bob and I packed up the roleplaying books into some filing boxes I brought, and tossed them into the van with the long table that we used to play on in Bob's basement.
The best part, apart from talking to Bob again after so long, was that he found my Warhammer Quest set! All of the tiles and books and miniatures were in the case, all labeled and ready to play. I was pretty upset about having lost that thing, and was equally glad to have recovered it. Seriously, that box represents a $200-$300 investment in cash, and the painting job that Berta and I did on those minis isn't something I would want to have to do over again. I'll have to take pictures of them to post, because they're awesome. more
There are a bunch of folks who don't get it or don't like it, so I figured I would take the time to explain Planet WordPress to the extent that I can, since it seems that I'm the one that usually causes the most problems with duplicated feed items, etc.
Planet WordPress is a site that aggregates feeds from a number of users who have contributed to the WordPress Open Source project, or who provide good sources of information on WordPress, its themes, or its plugins. Planet WordPress produces a feed that is displayed in the Dashboard of most WordPress installations.
How you get your site listed on Planet WordPress is a mystery to me. I appreciate the exposure, but I didn't originally ask to be added to the Planet site. Do not misunderstand, I'm not asking to be taken off. In fact, it is my suspicion that the Powers That Be added my feed to the Dashboard partially because I was publishing a good deal of informative WordPress information, but perhaps also a bit because at the time, I was advocating against the Dashboard feature and they wanted to shut me up. ;)...

I'm siting in my car and I'm inspired to talk about daydreams.
If I could be paid to daydream - what a lovely and lucrative career. I know, you're thinking, "Yeah, it would be great to sit around and do nothing all day - nice job." But I'm talking about real creative work here, something of value that I think I can offer.
I've had a lot of dreams over the years. Many are profitable in and of themselves, if only there was someone with the time and determination to see them through to the end. One of my favorites is the one about the cookbook. more
