There must be intelligent life down here
The server isn't dead. You would think this is good news.
I have arranged for everything here to move to a new server, as soon as they configure it, with TextDrive. That should be quite a bit more reliable than what I've got here. This is the fourth time in three months that the server has simply died for no reason. I never had this kind of trouble at EV1, even when I was on Windows 2003.
With this transfer comes a new hosting philosophy: I'm parcelling out my web services. more
Well, it really wasn't the other side of the world, just the country. But my favorite vacation was when we went to visit my Aunt in Medford, MA when I was ten years old.
It was my first time in a plane and I just had to sit by the window to see everything. The pilot told us we were going over the Grand Canyon and I couldn't believe it. It looked so little! Just a line drawn on the earth from way up there. The entire country looked just like one of the relief maps we got in school, the ones with green and brown and various shades colored to represent he many types of land.
And then we landed and there were cobblestone streets in the city. When we got out to Medford, there were trees and lawns and deer. My cousins had a forest for a backyard in their house in Connecticut. It was so quiet at night and so dark. My Aunt's house was old (as such things go this side of the pond) and creaky and she let my little brother and I sleep in the attic. I was sure there were ghosts and it was thrilling!...
moreI have a confession to make, Jamaica isn't a traditional "vacation spot" for me, it's where I was born. But in my own defense, I moved to the states when I was very young so going back to Jamaica is like a vacation.
Every time I stepped off the plane I was bombarded by the smells and sounds of the island. The last time I went to Jamaica, it wasn't on pleasant terms - it was to bury one of my beloved relatives and it was a bittersweet trip.
The relative was one who always provided me with a villa to stay in and drove me around the island and made me feel comfortable each time I went. Being there and not seeing him alive definitely hurt my heart....
moredanmark. yes. danmark would be my favorite place to vacation. (yes.. i also type it 'danmark' instead of 'denmark' because that is how they spell it there. :-) ) i realize that danmark is not your typical "touristy" vacation spot. but that is exactly why i love it so much. well, that and also i have made many great friends while i was over there for four months. i also fell in love with the food, the culture, the land and even the impossible-to-learn language of danish. (ok. so it's not impossible to learn... but it sure is near the top of 'most difficult things for me to do') i have found some places around here to buy danish food cuz i miss that food so much. i even miss having laugh at me for mispronouncing "rød grød med fløde" (don't worry, it's nothing bad. it actually means 'red berries with cream' and it is a traditional danish dessert... which is AWESOMELY good btw.. but nearly impossible for an american to pronounce correctly).
i spent four months in danmark and we traveled throughout the country during that time. if you are familiar with danmark, you may note that it is a very small country, (and the whole country would fit into lake michigan...) and that there are only around 6 million people that live there. so when we were traveling, we got to see most of the country. also, while we were there, we lived for a week at a time at either a family's home, or a boarding school. that was one of the coolest things EVER. we got to eat with the families or students, and enjoy danish 'every-day' life instead of fast food and hotels.
so yea. danmark. go there. and don't do touristy stuff. hang out with a family. experience hygge (there is no english translation for that word... it basically means 'cozy' and 'relaxed'. it's a time to relax and talk with family and friends and not worry about work. i think more people need to learn this concept!). ...
