Cheeseburger CakeThis weekend I can’t say that I did nothing, since I guess I had a weird need to feel more significant. The proof is in the pudding. Er, cake.

Abby did plenty of partying this weekend for a 5-year-old, which is a sad state of things. She was invited to two birthday parties with her kindergarten schoolmates. On Saturday, I stayed home with a tired and sick Riley and we watched Merlin and Timeline on the SciFi channel. Today though, we dropped Abby off at the party and Berta, Riley, and I went about taking care of some shopping chores.

The lightbulb in my office has been out for a few days, which makes it really hard to work in the twilight hours in which my current contract is entrenched. So we picked up a set of bulbs at Lowes. They work great.

Berta got supplies for Abby’s “Top Dog” project as school, and she has since helped Abby make a really nice panel that shows Abby’s insterests. Riley and I shopped for video games and got a few things that the kids will hopefull like. And we picked up a tea infuser for Berta, which she’s been needing since our teapot’s glass infuser broke, a sad day.

Earlier today I finally dismantled the second tree. No small feat by myself, and left me with little hives-like marks from the fake grass they use for the needles.

But still, I longed for more…

I told Riley that we shoud make a cake. I forget exactly what happened, but somehow we started talking about cheesburgers and how they weren’t cakes. Finally, I just said, let’s make a cake that looks like a cheeseburger.

So we spent part of our afternoon shopping for cake supplies. Cake mix, icing of different flavors and types, food coloring, and some nozzles for decorating.

While Berta made dinner, we mixed up some cake to cook. We made one box of yellow, and another box of yellow but dyed it brown to use as the “burger”.

After the cakes were cooled, we spread on icing that I had colored “bun”, and then coated the burger in chocolate icing. I placed a few gobs of green and red icing for lettuce and ketchup. Finally, some yellow gel icing for sesame seeds.

I placed a few wafer cookies around the bottom as French fries, and voila! Cheeseburger cake.

I feel accomplished.
