I received a comment recently, which put me in a mood:

The site has no contact info. neither does the plugin.

what do I need to change in the comment quick tags to have it work on comments popup?

Here’s the skinny on contact info, et al…

Every page on this site has my contact info on it. Look for my name at the bottom of the site. It’s obscure on purpose because I would rather all you froot-loops (and I mean that in a friendly way) try to search out your problems on the site and leave comments on appropriate posts before taking up every little detail with me in email.

I don’t even really mind the email, but don’t jump straight at it without trying to solve the problem yourself. Sometimes (often) it’s a simple problem that you caused, and I’m debugging your code. It’s a lot of effort that I don’t mind when it’s warranted, but bugs the crap out of me when it’s simple.

If you must get an answer, wouldn’t it benefit you to first look around for a post that could contain the answer? And if a relevant post doesn’t contain your answer, it’s probably a good place to leave your question as a comment since others can benefit. I read every comment that is left, unless it’s tagged by the spam filter. Even on the ones that the spam filter catches, I usually read the names of the posters to make sure something important hasn’t slipped through.

Let me reiterate - Leave a comment on an appropriate post. Not the very first one on the home page. Not whichever page you happen to have linked in on. On the appopriate post. It’s this way I generally use to separate the chaff from the grain in terms of those who tried to solve their own problems and those who did not.

Moreover, I want to take this moment to post again that I don’t provide support (better said: I completely cut off support) for people who don’t follow this very easy rule. It’s like a simple idiot filter. If you’re too lazy to help yourself, you’re probably not worth my time to bother helping.

Most people don’t need to be told the rules to follow them. That’s why when you violate them, you get the short shrift. Tough luck, buddy. Learn to be cordial, get what you want. You need not kiss my butt to get a response - I’m pretty amiable - but you do need to follow protocol.
