While driving to lunch the other day I noticed a lone caterpillar crawling its way across Gallagherville road from the field to our side of the street.  It was a large caterpiller, big enough to see from inside my car at about 25 mph.  It was black and red and very fuzzy.

"Hmm," I thought to myself, "You don't see caterpillars like that every day."

As I drove down the road, I noticed another caterpillar crawling.  It was about the same size as the previous one.  And then I saw another.  And another, and between the time I thought to start counting and I stopped seeing caterpillars, I had counted over 10.  From my car.  Doing about 40 mph, now.  Even more disturbing were the little caterpillar-sized splat marks pocking the road every few inches.

What's the deal with all of the caterpillars?  Are we in for an invasion?

On the way back to work, I stopped with my camera and took a picture of one of the many beasts that nearly overwhelmed me.  Seemed harmless enough.
