I am not an advocate of black rights - something for which I doubt many people of my skin color are advocates.

I re-read Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have a Dream” speech just now. After having read it, I can’t decide how I feel about it.

I can’t say that I denounce the message that all men are created equal. That is certainly something I believe firmly in. In the 60’s civil rights was in a different place than it is now, and my inability to understand what it was like then taints my impression of how important black rights were back then.

But I am an advocate of civil rights, and I don’t see this speech as having much substance in defending the rights of other minorities, or even the majority in the face of sometimes overwhelming entitlement on the part of the minority.
