With all of the work that needs done around the house lately, it’s going to get bothersome if I keep having to borrow power tools from everyone. So last week I went out and got a decent set of Ryobi rechargeable power tools.

Included in the kit was a circular saw, a drill, a reciprocal saw, a hand vacuum, and a flashlight. It came with two battery packs and a charger, all fitted into a nice big plastic case.

I used the circular saw immediately to cut the wood paneling in the basement. The guys who did the work in the basement didn’t cut the wall high enough, so I had to go back over that in order to fit the drywall in place. Hopefully that project will be done soon enough.

I cut half of the basement walls and screwed in two eight-foot drywall panels all with one battery and still had plenty of juice to spare. Long gone are the days of the ten-minute battery-powered power tool. And these tools are lightweight, which is good, too.

We used some of the tools to install the water filter under the sink. Mostly the flashlight, which doesn’t sound too impresive, but is actually pretty nice - and useful.

So after I finish the basement, what needs sawing? Yes, giving me power tools seems like a mistake on Home Depot’s part.
