The weekend started out just fine. We dropped off Abby at Mom’s place after work for an overnight visit, while we went out to dinner at Crawdaddy’s for Dave’s birthday.

Berta and I arrived at the restaurant a bit early, so we sat at the bar for a little while. It’s nice to have Berta’s full attention now and then, especially when she’s mostly awake. After a while, Dave and Larry showed up, followed by Jen. We took a seat for dinner and after Adam came along we ordered.

The food was good as always. I complain that the restaurant really doesn’t have anything to complain about. I have yet to have anything bad to eat there, and the service has always been very friendly.

Berta gave Dave our gift - a few used XBox games (Knights of the Old Republic, Prince of Persia, Breakdown) and a gift certificate to Home Depot. Hopefully, Dave will get some carpeting tools and get out from under Neal’s thumb.

We didn’t do anything after dinner lke see a movie or anything. I’m not sure why that didn’t come up (actually, now that I think about it, I have a theory), but there wasn’t anything to see anyway. Berta and I went home and watched the Butterfly Effect, which was not a bad movie. It was a bit more coherent than Donnie Darko, but not quite as moody. Still, Ashton Kutcher (yeah, I know what you’re thinking) really wasn’t bad. The guy can actually act in a more serious role.

Saturday morning, we layed around. That was nice since we don’t get to do it that often. We picked up Abby and went to lunch with Mom at the Red Sombrero. Abby didn’t like her taco, so I ordered some nachos, which are huge at this place. All of this food was weighing heavily on me from the Friday night dinner, Abby’s taco, some of the nachos, my own sandwich lunch. I was very full. It poured when I ran to get the car.

Later that afternoon, I wasn’t feeling very well. Some kind of cold. My sinuses were clogged and inflamed, and I had a tender throat and subtle cough. Even so, I went to the Saturday night game.

I put too many wandering monsters in the game, thinking that I would need some filler since the players would rip through what else I had planned. As it turned out, we didn’t even get to the one purposefully planned encounter for the evening. I will try to end the story in the next game session, and Ken will pick up as DM on the following week with a new party. I hope that the players will be pleased with the ending I have planned.

I stopped at Blockbuster on the way home and picked up Apollo 13 and the Yu-Gi-Oh game for the XBox. I watched Apollo 13 when I got in, and Berta watched with me for a little bit when she came down to take her vitamin. I didn’t play Yu-Gi-Oh before I went to bed.

On Sunday I felt like crap and spent a lot of time in bed. I took some drugs and slept some more. I tried to get Abby to take a nap, and when that didn’t work, I suggested that we go out for a drive to the book store with the intent of putting Abby to sleep via car ride. That didn’t work.

I had wanted to see the new World Of Darkness book just to page through and take a look, but they didn’t have it. I got a couple of drawing books instead.

I suggested that we stop at Walmart, and we got an order of fries and a soda from there. It turned out that we were more hungry than we had realized, so we headed home by way of the Wendy’s drive-thru. Abby fell asleep on the ride back and her nuggets got cold.

Sunday evening was uneventful. I don’t even remember what else we did. I took some more drugs for my cold or whatever. The outside air (windows down in the car) did me a lot of good. I’m sure I picked up this illness at the gym when I went on Thursday. Maybe I’ll go back again this week and spread it around some more.
