Maybe this phenomenon is unique to places I have worked, but I’ve noticed a trend in marketing that leads me to believe that marketers are the flakiest people in the universe.

This may only hold ture as a stereotype, that is, there may be flakier individual people out there from other fields. But on the whole, marketers are extremely flaky.

The question remains, why are marketing people so flaky? How is it that people whose job it is to convince other people that it’s a good idea to buy a product are unable to convince people that they are normal?

Why do they go on for hours relating personal stories that are totally unrelated to the subject at hand? Why tdo they insist on following the one course of action that is both apparent to them and the worst to follow when several other much better options are presented to them?

My only answer to these questions is that marketers’ brains are fundamentally wired differently from the rest of us.

If a marketing person were to read that last sentence, I would bet that they would take it in a positive light. It is not truly meant that way. I mean to say that the minds of marketing people are wired in such a way that is contrary to the workings of most other humans on the planet, and that this odd wiring is what causes the majority of the populace to not understand them. It’s not because they’re special or unique or posess some quality that puts them beyond the masses. It’s because they’re mentally screwed up.

And isn’t it typical of a marketer to thing that he or she has more experience in convincing people of facts? Isn’t it true that every person has equal opportunity to enjoy the human experience? So what makes marketers substantially more qualified to convince another man to buy an item? Nothing. So what makes them think they’re so special?

Wackos…
