"Stay Home Day"

Today I’m at home with Abby and Riley, because Abby isn’t yet signed up for full-week school.

Thursday is Abby’s last weekday as a school-free kid until her summer break in kindergarten. It’s kind of depressing to think about the future she has to look forward to - another year of pre-school, 13 years of public school, and more years of higher education. A lot of it seems like a waste, although I read Paul Graham’s essay on what he wished he knew during school, and that makes it seem a bit more manageable.

First Day Back

Today was Berta’s first day back to work since Riley was born, and everything so far seems to be going smoothly.

The contentious bit was whether our morning routine would go off without a problem. We have to get up, shower and dress, get Abby up and dressed, and get out the door with all of our required equipment. We have to cart Abby to school in the morning, which adds about 20-40 minutes to our travel time to work, and someone has to wait for Nana to arrive so that we don’t leave Riley alone at home.
