Catnip Pots

For Abby’s birthday this year, I got her a set of terracotta pots, potting soil, and catnip seeds. I figured that she and Berta or Nana could paint the pots before they planted the grass and catnip into them. Well, on Friday, Berta took off work, and she and Abby decorated the pots. When I came home from work on Friday, I took these pictures.

Good Neighbor Day

I don’t know why Downingtown did this, but instead of celebrating Independence Day on the 4th of July, they did it on the 3rd. Well, I suppose that they don’t call it Independence Day. They call it Good Neighbor Day, but still.

Abby stayed over at my mom’s last night, and when she returned her in the morning, all of the girls (Nana, Mom, Berta, and Abby) went down to the park to check out the festivities. They found the place that sells the wooden trinkets again this year. These wooden things are pretty neat. You turn a crank or spin some wheels and the whole thing comes to life.

Ken & Kate's

Instead of sticking around home for fireworks this year, we headed out to Ken & Kate’s place in Parkesburg. We hadn’t been to their house since they moved there, and we really wanted to check it out.

It turns out that they live in a neat old house. You can see the wooden supports for the floor above in the ceiling in many of the rooms. Ken showed me where the fireplace is in the kitchen. It looks like there will be a whole lot of work involved to remove the wall from in front of it. They’ve got a nice big back yard and even a game room. I didn’t think the green in that room was too bad, but I can understand that they’d want to repaint.

Fourth Prep

Berta took off work today because of some paperwork issue at Abby’s school. Apparently, they lost her medical forms and won’t be allowed back at school until they’re replaced. Berta contacted the doctor on Monday, but it takes 5 days to produce the report (yeah, right) so Abby’s off school today.

I didn’t ask her what she intended to do while they were home, though I noticed that the terracotta pots for the catnip were on the kitchen table, as well as Abby’s Midnight Circus t-shirt. I assume they’re going to paint the pots today. Berta suggested that they might meet us for lunch.

Brace yourself

Apparently I’m not the only one with brace issues, but now they’ve come back to bite me.

A while ago I was showing Berta some code I had written. I forget what it was. Anyway, she commented as she had int he past that she didn’t like my style of indentation and brace use. Some will be surprised/enlightened to find out that this is one of the few things that Berta and I ever argue about. Anyway, she was convinced that her way was good, and I liked my way and that was that. Well, in a sudden urge to get myself in line with what seemed like the rest of the world (for no particular reason… ahem), I decided to switch everything over to the way that Berta did it, and now I’m thinking to regret it.
