I needed to make the anonuncement official, and since everyone relevant seems to read this site in some form, I thought I would make it here.

For some time, my birthday has been on January 4th.  Almost 30 years, actually.  And for a good chunk of recent memory, my birthday has been one of the worst days of my year.  From broken bones to spending it alone in a hotel to being deathly ill...  It's just not been a good time.

It's also right after all of the major holidays.  I can sympathize with folks who have their birthdays around the holidays and receive gifts wrapped in Christmas paper.  I suspect that this happens less often with birthdays that occur before the holiday.  Even if it wasn't wrapped in holiday paper, don't you always wonder if it was at one point?

Also, the weather is never good.  Nobody wants to go out in January to celebrate your birthday.  Ok, sure, they might want to celebrate your birthday, but it's so cold and occasionally icy, and who wants to deal with all of that?

So here is the official notice...

I'm moving my birthday to June.  June 4th.  It's warm in June.  It's not very near anyone else's birthday of whom I'm aware.  It'll give us a reason to get together on a potentially warm day to do something fun.

As far as the state is concerned, I'll be 30 on January 4th, but we'll be celebrating that on June 4th.  What does this mean to you?

  • No need to say "Happy Birthday" on January 4th.
  • No need to send birthday cards on January 4th.
  • No need to give me gifts on January 4th.
  • No need to suffer through weather to see me on January 4th.

You will want to reschedule anything you had planned to the June date, though.  I hope that we can have a big 30th birthday party or something.  Since June 4th is a Friday this year, we should celebrate on Saturday.  Maybe an afternoon barbeque in the back yard, and then go down to the city at night and find something fun to do.

Anyway, that's the plan.

Now that that's taken care of, we just need to make arrangements for Dave's annual bachelor party...
