Built-in Plugins for WordPress

There is a pretty vocal discussion ensuing on the wp-hackers mailing list at the moment about which plugins should be included with the core distribution.

It’s likely that they wouldn’t be enabled by default. Maybe they would be?

In any case, one of the font-running suggestions for inclusion is some sort of comment spam blocking plugin. I wanted to expound on my original post on why this isn’t a good idea.

Riley Turns One

This weekend was exciting because we got to celebrate Riley’s first birthday.

It’s weird how I always assumed that Abby would grow up. I have always looked forward to the day when she was older and I could really do things with her. And as far as her progress goes, she’s coming along. But I’ve never relaly thought about Riley growing up, so this milestone is a strange kind of shock.

Party in the Box

MDX bottleI finally got my “Party in the Box” yesterday from the folks at Pepsi/Mountain Dew. It all came in a small box, but it was stuffed pretty full.

There were 5 hats, 5 t-shirts, two coupons for Mountain Dew, 5 postcard invitations, one movie advertisement, and a bottle of MDX beverage.

I was very surprised to learn that MDX is sugar-free. I hadn’t suspected. Maybe it’s just the bottle I got? Anyway, it’s still just a tad too… green.

New Stuff at Red Alt

I don’t know why I didn’t think of this sooner.

I downloaded a copy of bbPress to put on Red Alt to keep track of support issues. Hey, it’s not a ticket-based system, it’s better – It allows the community to pool their knowledge for support. Hopefully that means I won’t have to do it all myself.

I’m making some other changes over at RedAlt, too. I’m slowly building a new download section so that things are easier to find. While I’m doing it, I’m writing up that missing documentation for the plugins that are laying around over there. Most of them didn’t really need documentation when they started, so I never wrote any, and then as they got more complicated they needed documentation that I never thought to write.

Plus many of those plugins need WordPress 1.6 treatment. Some of them are already ready, just not sitting out there for download yet because they’re waiting for the organizational changes to come through. I’m thinking about how I’m going to organize everything so that you download the correct version for your copy of WordPress.
