Boy, am I glad Christmas is over.

I probably should have documented more of the holiday as it was happening, but there was so much else to do.  Between the gift buying and holiday parties and family gatherings and making of chocolate candies, there hasn't been much time for anything.

I'm calling today my day off, even though I have work, simply because I'm not doing shopping and I have a few minutes to sit and not worry about things before the craziness begins again.

I got some cool stuff for Christmas this year.  Mostly things on my list.  The few items that I got that were not on my list were nice.  A book of poetry with CDs of readings by the actual poets.  A car emergency device that will jump the battery.  Some home-baked cookies.

I've noticed that none of the items on my list are toys.  So I've really had nothing to play with over my days off.  There are a lot of books and DVDs, which take allocated time to view.  But nothing really hands-on or momentary.  I'll have to fix that in next year's list.

Abby was enthusiastic at Christmas this year.  I think she was more often repeating what she had been told about Santa Claus than actually understanding that a fat man in a red suit would be leaving toys for her from the north pole.  Who can blame her?  I bet she'll be more excited next year.

Right now, she's a little sickling.  She's had a cold for a while now, probably picked up from one of her school buddies.  She's been up at night coughing, and she was pretty beat this morning with Nana.  Just kind of laying on the couch, half asleep.

I notice every so often when she gets more cognizant of things around her.  Apart from this sickness, she's been pretty chatty for the past couple of days.  She's really picking up on things.  I hope that some time soon will mark the point where she will become frustrated with us not being able to understand all of her "baby"-talk and she'll start working on her L, R, and K sounds.  If she gets those, then everyone will be able to understand her.  It's really not so bad, but there are sometimes when it would be easier to understand her if she threw in a good solid L in certain words.

Things to do yet soon: Figure out what to pack for New York tomorrow.  Change my spring class schedule and sign up for deferred payment.  Install a high-performance game on the new computer.  Win $210 million in PowerBall.
