Wouldn’t it be nice if we didn’t have to hang them? What a fiasco.

At first we didn’t know how our new neighborhood would decorate. Would they decorate conservatively or would they trow lights on top of everything? Well, after the last couple weeks of warmer weather, everyone had plenty of time to put up whatever lights they wanted, and we’ve been left with a display that is not conservative, but also doesn’t consist of multiple lighted, moving, and sound-producing lawn creatures.

So after the unseasonably warm weather, we went to Lowes to look for lights. They were unsurprisingly low on stock. We bought 3 strands of 9-foot length of this draping light stuff for the front of the house. It occurs to me now that if we had multiplied this out, we might have uncovered our problem.

Being that Lowes didn’t have everything we wanted, or any real selection at all, we went to Target. Target had a great selection of lights and plenty of them. We picked out a few icicle light strands, a strand of LED lights. Berta picked out a ton of lighted garland for inside, and a wreath.

We carted all of this stuff home and started stringing it up in the incoming blustering cold. Literally stringing, using cooking twine. I climbed up into the tree with a ladder and strung this stuff up with the cold wind blowing in. Fun, fun.

I started to lay out the new strands we bought for the front of the house. All three barely cover the porch, and don’t touch the garage. We would need at least two more strands. Also, the hooks that were supposed to already be on the gutter were mostly missing. Instead of being spaced every few feet, there were only two on one end and one on the other. Certainly not enough for running all of the lights, even if we had all the lights we needed. Back to the store.

Well, we weren’t going to go all the way back down to Lowes. And of course, that’s where the porch light strands came from. So, no more porch lights. Instead, we bought four packs of multi-colored LED lights for the bushes, which looked really bare after the rest of the lights were up.

This whole thing is a big mix of different kinds of lights of different colors, and I’m afraid it’ll just look like we threw a few random lights on a few random bushes. Well. I guess we did.

Perhaps next year we’ll plan the lighting out a little bit more. I don’t have much hope for this year’s lighting scheme looking much better than a hodgepodge of lights. Oh well, at least the stuff we got for inside the house looks nice.
