Berta has been off from work all week because Nana and Mom have gone to San Fransisco, and we wouldn't have daycare otherwise. While she has been home she's been trying to paint the downstairs bathroom, which is requiring a lot of work. With all of the sanding and spackling (Did you know that Spackle is a brand name? Not to be confused with Spackle, the eye-candy web site.) it's hard to use the bathroom. Expecially with all of the ladders.
Anyway, she went to Home Depot yesterday. The guy there recommended a sealant paint and said that like many latex paints this one would dry best in a dry room. The bottom line was that it would be best to not shower in that bathroom while the paint is drying.
So this morning I was showering in the stall upstairs. This is fine, because I actually prefer using tht bathroom. The only really bad thing about it is the shower head is a little low, so I have to bend oddly to get my hair wet. In any case, the shower this morning was an interesting deviation from my normal routine.
Everything went fine, and then I stepped out of the shower. That's when I saw it. Cthulhu, laying on the floor of my shower.
I wouldn't say I'm squeamish when it comes to spiders. That's Berta's department. But I really didn't want to touch this one. You can see it in the callout image in its full glory. I'm not sure if the legs are really long and the body is obscured, but upon closer inspection now, it seems that is the case.
Reflecting on it now, don't spiders usually curl their legs inward when they die? The legs on this one don't look curled in. Do you think this spider is still alive? Do you think I left it in the house with Berta and Abby??
I know that the spider wasn't in there when I entered the shower, so I wonder where it came from. How can one be so oblivious in the shower to have not seen such a large insect? I can only imagine how I might have reacted if I had seen it coming into the shower stall. I wonder if there are more around of that size. I guess that spring and its flurry of indoor arachnids is upon us.
Anyway, I hope Abby and Berta are safe from this thing. I escaped pretty much unscathed. My leg is kind of itchy, though.
