Well, Mahesh has been officially gone for a couple weeks now, and I find myself longing for someone with which to share my work angst in the morning. I usually say "good morning" to Betty and/or Barry or whoever I happen to pass on my way to my office, but I find that it doesn't offer the same empathetic dispair as saying good morning to Mahesh. So, in an effort to fix that, here's what I'm looking for:
Development employee seeks peer with IM with whom to exchange "good morning" sentiments and infrequent "damn, this job sucks" during the day.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must have full day access to IM (MSN, AIM, ICQ) during business hours (8-5 EST).
- Applicant must have distain for the work they do, most likely from the free time afforded them to sit and do nothing.
- Applicant must share political and philosophical views with the development employee, or offer unique and respectable counter-views.
Responsibilities:
- Applicant must respond in positive manner to any IM messages for which they have time to respond. For example, if sent - "Damn, this job sucks!", an appropriate response would be - "Don't I know it."
- Applicant must send periodic spontaneous IM messages in kind.
- Applicant will exchange holiday greetings with the development employee, and complain when they have to work when the development employee has vacation.
- Applicant may be called on for favors, such as pictures or gifts from their locale, with the expectation that they will receive like gifts in kind.
The applicant will not be paid, however, one would hope that the applicant would appreciate the return of said responsibilities.

The sad fact is, I sit here all day behind the computer and I'm the only person who really understands how one works. I'm among the 50% of employees here that know how to type. I manage an off-shore development team who isn't online during our work hours, so I can't IM them (not that they'd care to complain about day-to-day anything, or had the same holidays as we do here in the States). And I'm just lonely, I guess. Even when Mahesh was here we didn't talk much, but it was always nice that I could get up and wander over there to chat for a few minutes. Oh, well. I had better get used to talking to myself on here.
And hey...
I know all of you people are out there. Tracy, Greg... I can see you accessing the site via my server logs. And I know that you can type. There's plenty of comment space sitting around. Feel free to fill it. Give a lonely guy something to look forward to besides going home for the day.
