I’m going to start posting in private mode. That means that some (not all) of the posts I make will only be visible to registered users.
Yes, you will have to register to read the private posts.
What benefit is there to private post readings? Well, I’ve thought about this long and hard for the past 20 seconds, and I’ve determined that there is none, unless you have reason to believe you will enjoy reading what I have deigned necessary to hid behind the shroud of login. There is the potential, too, for you to post your own stuff to this web site. I know there are a couple of you out there who really want to do it. (You know who you are, and you haven’t even told me as much - I can read it in the thoughts behind your comments.)
I mentioned at the game on Saturday night that this site gets a fair share of daily visitors. My daily session count is around 2000 these days. That’s 60000 sessions a month, which is pretty good. I’m not sure how that translates into pageviews. Strangely, the site is reasonably sticky for newcomers. I don’t know if you find this volue of audience appealing or daunting, or maybe you simply ignore it all and write ignorant of it like I do.
Anyway, you’ll ask what you have to do to become a registered user. It’s actually pretty easy. You just click this link or the “Register” link that is always in the sidebar, and you fill out the form and off you go. You start out with user level 0, which is enough to read private posts, and then we’ll see how it goes.
I don’t promise anything more impressive with private mode, but you can see the appeal in being able to do things away from the whole of the public some of the time.
