I ended Friday with a bit of a cold and sore throat, and now I’m once again oozing from various orifices. Of particular concern to me at the moment is my nearly completely blocked sinuses, which allow just enough air to pass to remind me that I’m sick.

Even so, the weekend wasn’t so bad.

Berta took Abby to see Clifford at the DuPont Theater, thanks to tickets from my mom. They had a good time. They let you take pictures at the show, which is unusual, so there may be some to see. Keep an eye on the Flickr page.

Riley and I stayed at home and made popcorn. We watched the first half of the Battlestar Galactica finale and then took a nap. I woke up a bit early and started on a new design for this web site, which is coming along slowly, since this sickness causes my vision to get blurry if I stare at the screen for too long.

Riley, having spent so much time with me over the weekend, has also caught this bug, and was up screeching last night. Berta and I didn’t sleep properly with him in the bed with us, and although he doesn’t hog up the bed like Abby does, Riley likes my side of the bed better. He also likes to kick me in the face when he’s asleep. Abby sounds like she might be coming down with this, too, so maybe we’ll see her in a similar capacity soon. Berta will get her share of kicks to the face, then.

I’m slowly coming to the same conclusion that I came to a couple of years ago when I first switched to dedicated hosting - Shared hosting sucks. What I would really like is managed VPS or dedicated hosting. I’ll even pay for the hosting myself if someone who knows how to manage it shares the server with me. I’m getting tired of having to trifle with server issues when I’m trying to concentrate on content. Looking for a good VPS host (one where I don’t have to tweak MySQL or Apache myself) is wasting a lot of my time.

I spent a good bit of the weekend organizing my influx of Perplex City cards into the starter kit binder. The whole thing is pretty intriguing. I’ve solved a bunch of the puzzles in the cards that I have, but I have no idea even how to begin searching for the Cube. I have noticed that a few of the cards have some extra things on them, like poker card names. There’s this one card that’s printed in heat-sensitive ink. When you hold it over a heat source, all but some of the letters disappear. The remaining clue has nothing to do with the puzzle on the card, so I assume that it has something to do with the metapuzzle.

I’ll sum up my review of Ultraviolet like so: Ugh. I guess
