On Friday night Berta and I dropped Abby off at my mom's house for overnight sitting.  We've been doing this about once a month, and it seems like much longer since our last adult outing.

We met up with Dave and Jen at my mom's house, and left form there for the Thai Orchid over in Malvern.

We ordered a sampler platter of appetizers.  Some of them were good.  The ones that looked fried were good.  There was a strange fried noodle thing in the middle that was covered with a sweet sauce.  It reminded me of Rice Crispie Treats.  There were a couple of other things, including this odd steamed dumpling thing that had something that looked (and even tasted) a bit like cat food.

I had some kind of shrimp entree with peanut sauce.  The shrimp tasted more like lobster than shrimp.  They were very big.

After dinner, we headed over to the theater to see Basic,  John Travolta's new film.  In amongst many different tellings of the same event we found that there was no truth.  In the end, we might as well have not watched the first 110 minutes of movie.  It was worth it to get out of the house, it's just a shame there wasn't really anything better to see.

And before anyone complains that there were other films to see, I'd like to point out that yet another Vin Diesel movie does not an excellent night out make.  In fact, what was the last good movie he was in?  XXX?  No.  Yes, that's right, The Fast and the Furious.  And I simply wasn't going to commit to yet another white guy (Steve Martin) "pretending" to be black for an evening's entertainment.

That said, there just wasn't anything good in the theater this weekend.  Maybe next week will be better, with the release of Bulletproof Monk.  Having already seen the first 20 minutes of the movie, I can say that it's good so far.  I will have to go back and watch the rest.
