We’ve watched a bit of TV over the weekend between home finishing. There’s nothing on regular TV in the summer, especially over the weekend, so we’ve been watching movie channels. It occurred to me last night that there sure was a lot of Will Smith on TV.

First was, obviously, Independence Day. The Fresh Prince plays a fighter pilot who delivers the improbable computer virus to the alien ship.

Next was I, Robot, where Smith frees the humans from the terror of robot opression.

After that in Men in Black he kicked more alien butt with Tommy Lee Jones and a tiny ray gun.

I predicted that we would probably see Bad Boys, where Smith plays a cop who partners with Martin Lawrence. Sure enough, this morning they were shooting up the place.

I was more shocked to see A Shark Tale, where Agent J throws down a voice track as the faux shark killer in the computer-animated film.

I’m patiently awaiting enemy of the state, which is pretty good up until Gene Hackman gets involved.

(Speaking of Hackman, they ran the original Superman movie all day yesterday, which stars Hackman as Lex Luthor. With the new Superman movie in the theater, is this any coincidence?)

Since when did Will Smith become synonymous with Independence Day? Not that I dislike him; on the contrary, I like his movies a bunch. It’s just strange that a single star would become associated with a holiday this way.

Should I be on the lookout for Bagger Vance?
