I’ve had so much to say over the past two weeks, and no desire at all to write about any of it. It seems like I should do a dictation or something, and have my secretary write out my blog posts for me. Perhaps I will look into a service soon – I’ve always thought that my blog entries would sound better if I read them instead of writing them. In any case, here’s a brief summary of topics of things that I should have written about but didn’t.

I got a shave two weeks ago - a real one in a barber’s chair with a straight razor. I actually did write about this, but I wasn’t near the internet when I did it, and I’m not sure where my notebook is at the moment. I’m sure that post will appear when I finally stumble across the notebook bag.

On that same day, I attended the PhillyCHI design slam. It was an interesting event in which we were broken up into small random groups and given the task to create a “table management system” for a fictional restaurant. Our group didn’t do very well primarily because there was no cohesion between our members. We had some pretty good ideas, but they weren’t realized because everyone wanted to go separate directions. Kind of stupid, really.

I got really sick after that. Like, slept for two days sick. When I was awake, it was in a dizzy stupor. Not entirely pleasant.

Abby was out of school because of the strike during that time, and since Nana had wrecked her car, I was basically asleep at home “watching” the kids. Somewhat un-fun.

Yes, just before all of this, Nana got run into while driving home. She made a left at an intersection near the house and got rammed by some truck or something. The car was totaled. I remember the conversation with her on her cell phone, hearing the woman in the background who had actually seen the side of the car that got hit. Nana was saying, “I think I can drive this home, I don’t know why I have to stay here.” And the lady in the background was saying, “This car isn’t going anywhere.” Nana had apparently not seen the passenger side of the car, where all of the windows were broken out and the side completely smashed in.

Nana’s in a new car now and things are relatively back to normal. She was having me show her where to turn on the headlights, and I explained that her new car’s headlights turned on by themselves. Yeah, there’s been that much of an advance since her last car.

Somewhere in all the commotion, they finally delivered the piano. It works well. The kids have already abused it – slamming the keyboard cover, beating too forcefully on the keys, etc. I need to instill in them a better sense of value of their possessions. As they say, “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

We went to Johnstown one weekend in there and picked up the new kittens. Phobos and Deimos have since made themselves at home in our family room, hiding under the furniture and only coming out for water and food. It’s not really that bad; they are hanging out with us more frequently. I keep telling the kids that they’ll only grow to like you if you leave them alone. I caught Abby picking up Deimos and putting him in the litter box for no reason she could offer. The kittens have been comparatively well-behaved.

Work continues full-force. I’ve got a new project to start on that I’m getting more excited about. It’s the kind of topic that I like to work on; something I believe in more than a lot of the ecology stuff the company usually handles. I hope it turns out well. The designers are top-notch.

Tomorrow is the blogger meetup. I really need to get back into the local scene, so hopefully I can escape to the meeting. Tuesday is the PHP meetup, where the group is going to see someone speak on PHP security (if I remember correctly). In a couple of weeks I’ll be heading out to DrupalCon with the work folks for a week, which should be both educational and fun. We’re planning a cruise for sometime in possibly April. Early June is my birthday BBQ, and late June is the Podcamp Ohio, of which Habari a sponsor. So there’s lots to look forward to in the coming months.

The pizza hasn’t arrived yet. I should know better than to order pizza delivery on Friday night, since they get busy. But I guess I’m just getting lazy, eh? Oooh, doorbell! Just in time!
