I burned a new mix CD this morning out of the blue. It has a fairly basic running sonic theme, with a couple of exceptions.
I was listening to it in the car this morning, and thought that it might be interesting to write something related to each track, since each track has at least one specific memory or impression attached to it, as music tends to do. Of course, the length of each passage will probably vary as to the strength of the association.
Here’s my tracklist:
- Lipstick and Bruises - Lit
- Sick of Myself - Matthew Sweet
- Come Down - Toad the Wet Sprocket (This song is supposed to be Fall Down, but I picked the wrong one)
- Higher Ground - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Revolution - REM
- Cold Hard Bitch - Jet
- Freak on a Leash - Korn
- Jump Jive and Wail - Louis Prima
- Lady - Lenny Kravitz
- I Need a Hero - Frou Frou
- Pain - Jimy Eat World
- Powerstruggle - Sunna
- Stacked Actors - Foo Fighters
- Brown Derby Jump - Cherry Poppin’ Daddies
- Faint - Linkin Park
- Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
- Father Lucifer - Tori Amos
- a knife and a fork - Information Society
- Long Tall Sally - The Beatles
- La La - Ashley Simpson
- One Week - Barenaken Ladies
For the first one, I’m going to cheat a little and link to something I had written a while back, Julia and Will. That’ll leave me room to get started on the next one. Hopefully the rest of these don’t all turn into “My experience at the X concert”. I’m sure they won’t. I’m sure that not all of them will be actual experiences that I’ve had, and that it will be difficult to even make an association between the music and the writing in some cases. Fun!
And please don’t find this particular set of tracks indicative of my general music tastes (well, maybe a little) because I specifically selected these songs, for one reason or another, from a much larger library. Yes, I’m sure you get it.
