A Proclamation
The President of the United States has proclaimed the week of October 26 through November 1, 2003 as "Protection From Pornography Week". While I support the President in his desire to protect our country's children from the "dangers" of pornography - specifically the corruption of innocents in the production of pornographic media - I do not find that pornography is the cause of "debilitating effects on communities, marriages, families, and children".
I do not follow the President's logic in the condemnation of pornography as related to supervision of sex offenders who are released from prison. I do not understand how the production of pornography affects the efficacy of the Amber Alert system.
While I vehemently applaud the efforts of the president and his administration for his stepped-up resources toward the detection and prosecution of child sex offenders, I do not wish that the President overstep his bounds by influencing the freedom of expression on the internet as guaranteed in our constitution.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Webmaster of Asymptomatic, by virtue of the authority invested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 26 through November 1, 2003, as Protection Of Pornography Week. I call upon public officials, law enforcement officers, parents, and all the people of the United States to observe the pornography hosted on this site during this week.
