I’ve been on this new kick lately to find something good to drink. It’s working out pretty well on many fronts.
A while ago I decided that I would not add caffeine to my daily consumption needs. I used to have one or two sodas a day at least, and it wasn’t doing anything for me. Soda is just bad for you, diet or not.

I went insane and tried that Atkins diet thing (which is really stupid, and I have since changed my ways, but that’s another story) and if you read the book it’ll tell you that caffeine is not allowed. Most likely because it’s a gateway to toher things. It’s a habit-forming substance and it is usually consumed with other things.

Have you ever had a need to have caffeine? People say that they can’t imagine taking a drug that is both psychologically and physically addictive. Well, guess what? You could be addicted to caffeine.

When I stopped drinking caffeinated sodas and teas and such, I had such a headache, I can’t describe the pain. It lasted days. Finally, when it was all done, I told myself I would never drink caffeine again.

Of course, I’ve been on and off of that promise, but I’m currently sticking to is pretty well. The occasional caffeinated beverage isn’t so bad, as long as it’s not a regular thing. I’ve cut down to about 2 or 3 a week, which includes not just soda and tea, but anything with caffeine, like chocolate.

Anyway, there is a real problem here because after you eliminate caffeinated beverages, it’s very difficult to find something to drink that does not also contain sugar. Go through a fast food drive-thru and try to select something that is both caffeine-free and sugar-free. You just can’t.

I have been on the diet ginger ale binge for a while, and there is only so much of that stuff you can drink before you get utterly sick of it and just switch back to caffeine. But I have found something that looks positive, and I’ve been drinking a lot more of it lately.

There’s this stuff that they sell at CVS called Fruit2O. It’s a play on the chemical formula for water (H2O), which it what this is, but it’s infused with fruit flavor.

You must be thinking the same thing I was. “Yuck. Flavored water.” Well, it turns out it’s not so bad. In fact, it’s pretty good. Actually, I can’t get enough of it these days. I just keep drinking it and drinking it. There is a distinct difference between Fruit2O and other flavored water, though.

Fruit2O uses Splenda as a sweetener. I’ve recently read about this sweetener in Wired magazine. It’s derived from real sugar, but has no calories. It’s been tested in hundreds of scientific trials, and it’s been determined safe even for pregnant or nursing mothers. But what about taste

Remember when Nutrasweet first came out and everyone said that they didn’t like the weird aftertaste? Do you notice that aftertaste now? Probably not unless you eat a candybar right before you drink a diet coke. But after I started drinking Fruit2O, I noticed that diet coke regained that Aspartame aftertaste. Fruit2O also doesn’t taste excessively sweet.

Some flavored water drinks are just too sweet. A good example of this is the flavored water from Wegmans. Not only is it carbonated (which is just weird if you ask me), but it uses Nutrasweet to make a drink that’s seems more sweet than it should be. This is not the case with Fruit2O. It has a subtle sweetness that doesn’t shock you when you drink it.

I’ve tried a coupld of other flavored waters, too. There are Propel and Aquafina Essentials. Propel is made by Gatorade which is owned by Quaker Oats which is owned by Pepsi which is owned by one of the illuminati. Propel infuses its water with vitamins and calls it “Fitness Water”. That seems a bold claim for water. “Fitness” Aquafina does the same thing, but doesn’t tout the fitness aspect. But both of these waters use corn syrup to sweeten the water. That adds about 15-20 calories per bottle. It’s not much, but it’s there. Nonetheless, it’ll do in a pinch if there is no Fruit2O around. These also taste better than anything flavored with Nutrasweet.

Fruit2O offers a line of water that has vitamins in it, too. I prefer these because I know that I’m not getting enough vitamins in my diet. But I don’t go out of my way for them. The bottles with the vitamin enrichment are also more attractive than the plain ones.

Anyway, I just wanted to give my full endorsement to Fruit2O, who has created a tasty product that exactly fits my needs.
