Ugh.  I wrote this other thing as a kind of "about me" page.  It's disturbing.  I was hoping to edit it down to appeal to the wide audience, but there is just no removing the offending parts without reducing the juice.  So, sorry, you're not getting that.

But you can have this.

You can't assemble a complete impression of me from a composite of these writings because I tend to censor things as I write them so as not to offend my frequent readers.  This fact is probably made more disturbing in that I tend to offend my frequent readers anyway.

I'm trying to distill what I am into a few paragraphs here, so give me a break.  Let's start out with some basics, then, and you can use stereotypes to file me into your worldview.

I like music.  I'm hard pressed to tell you a band name that I like because I tend not to know the names of bands that really appeal to me.  I don't like to admit that I'm mostly happy listening to modern rock top 40, although I am aware of how manipulated it is, and realize that I probably like a lot of that stuff not because it's good but because I hear it all the time.  In an effort to improve my standing among the "how can you listen to that" crowd, I also enjoy a good violin quartet, big-band swing number, emo croon, or punk uprising.  I'm slowly coming to appreciate that music that I hear being played loudly in cars as they drive by my house, although not in a way that I would seek out the albums in a music store.  If you were to force me to choose bands that I like (perhaps best by asking me to name albums that I own), I would admit to owning the following albums, rearranged and chosen completely randomly:  Fashion Nugget, Force Majeure, Ima Robot, Blood Sugar Sex Magic, Girlfriend, Shampoo Horn.

I'm a freakish computer programmer.  I have little formal training.  But I've been doing it professionally for over 8 years.  I'm one of those guys that bothered to learn stuff about computers before the computer boom, and now everyone confuses me with someone who's been studying VB for four years at community college.  Although it's worse because at least they have a computer science degree.
