Berta, Abby, and I all went to the Wizard World comic convention this afternoon to look at all of the comics, but primarily to get an audience with Eliza Dushku, who played Faith on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

We got to the convention at a reasonable time and parked at a lot next door. The place was already crowded. We paid the outrageous ($20/person) admission to get in and hooked on our badges.

Just inside the convention center, we ran into Edwin from the Teddy Scares booth. These guys are pretty cool, but a little too old for Abby’s age to understand. I might yet get one. Edwin is the coolest bear. (Maybe a good idea for Jen’s birthday, since this seems right up her alley.)

When on the convention floor, we saw the autograph area. This is where the non-special guests were signing autographs. Berta got to shake hands with Mark Singer, also known as the Beastmaster. Mark Singer played a lead role in the series “V”, too. We also saw Brian Thompson, who has been in dozens of sci-fi TV shows and movies, from Buffy to X-Files to Charmed. Herbert Jefferson Jr. was there, too, who you might know better as Lt. Boomer on Battlestar Galactica.

When we finished up there, we wandered through the crowds and sales booths to the back of the convention, where the special guests were doing signings. Presumably, we would find Eliza Dushku there. And we did. At least, we saw a sign with her name on it, but not her herself. The line to get a signing was so enormous, it left the cow-herders and headed back out toward the front of the convention. Oh, well.

We wandered around the show floor for a bit and checked out some of the displays. There were some cool framed painting of comic heros that were simply too expensive ($2000 and up). We ducked into the Top Cow booth briefly to steal a catalog of upcoming releases. We also stopped at the Teddy Scares booth to check out their bears.

There was a dude who made metal sculptures of many things, including a full-sized Predator. Everything was made out of scrap metal and bicycle chains, which was pretty neat.

Eventually it was time for Eliza’s Q&A, so we got lost trying to find the appropriate room. Eventually we found it, though. I got a video of her talking about kissing some guy and kissing some girl. Not sure who she’s talking about. But we sat through the whole thing and I got a couple of crappy pictures in the poor auditorium lighting. Neat!

We did actually get a couple of indy comics while we were there. There was a comic by Framk Cammuso called Maxx Hamm - Fairy Tale Detective that we got signed. I also got one called Nate and Steve, who apparently have a web site they wanted me to talk up, so here it is.

In all it was a nice trip. And all back in plenty of time to plan for my D&D game tonight.
