There must be intelligent life down here

Watch your head.

I’m not a worldly traveller, but the year before the birth of our first child, my wife and I went on a cruise. There were lots of great memories, and lots of great stories, but only one that was inspiring enough to cause me to join in on my first FFAF.

Our cruise went halfway through the Panama Canal, with various stops. This highlight story occurred at our last stop – Cozumel, Mexico, where we’d signed up for a tour of the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum. Since the ship docked at Cozumel, we had to take a ferry to the mainland. The ferry ride over was pretty rough, with even my wife (the former naval reservist) feeling a little queasy (though I was fine). After the ferry ride, we had a long bus ride to get to the ruins, and then a quick tour. It was a really good time, and we got some fantastic photos. I’m still not getting to the point though :)

What memories are made of...

Hmm, holidays. My most memorable one would have to be the year we went camping in northern France. It was sunny, then it rained, and it rained, and well, you get the gist. Anyway we had a slight problem, we were camped on a hill, which the water ran down, so we had to go home early. Actually that was bad, but not the worst. The worst was the one where we ended up in an apartment complex with dog mess in the pool, shirty owners and a useless rep. That was Thompson’s Small & Friendly Brochure, of course, neither small nor friendly. But then we were moved, to another complex in fact, that was small, 4 people in one small room, plus a kitchen and a loudly humming fridge. So that is how memories are made. Not the last three fantastic holidays we’ve had, lovely villas with pools, nope. I’m a pessimist by nature…

Johnstown Trip

I’m getting lax in writing about these events, instead concentrating on the ephemeral. I’ve got all these photos from things that need to go online, and what I should really do is go in chronological order, but here I am starting backwards. Oh, well.

Over Father’s Day weekend, we trekked to Johnstown to visit Berta’s family. Everyone out there seems to be doing well, although Abby and I were sad to learn that Shade, the family dog, had to be put down.
