I’m getting lax in writing about these events, instead concentrating on the ephemeral. I’ve got all these photos from things that need to go online, and what I should really do is go in chronological order, but here I am starting backwards. Oh, well.

Over Father’s Day weekend, we trekked to Johnstown to visit Berta’s family. Everyone out there seems to be doing well, although Abby and I were sad to learn that Shade, the family dog, had to be put down.

We stayed in the sun room, which proved to be a mite small for the four of us. I slept on the floor in my sleeping bag. Therese, Berta’s sister, stole my air mattress, though, which I usually keep hidden under the bed in there. So the stay wasn’t as comfotable as usual. But at least Berta let me sleep in!

We visited with Mary Ann at her house for a while. She and Ryan took us to Toys-R-Us to buy a belated birthday present for Abby. She ended up getting a bunch of things instead of one big thing, and really, that suited Abby just fine. Berta and I got a few things while we were there, too. More pacifiers for Riley, primarily, but also this cool thermometer that I’ve been looking for everywhere.

In the afternoon, Abby played with her toys at Mary Ann’s house, and we played a little with some water guns. The Supersoakers that we bought last week were still in the car, and I armed myself and Abby with this superior firepower, completely soaking Mary Ann and sending her into the house for safety.

We had dinner on Saturday night with her siblings and siblings-in-law at Lone Star. Steve even came out with us. And we had traditional Sunday supper at Berta’s parents'.

Berta and Abby got me a couple things for Father’s Day, including a card and a book. Both Emma and Berta’s dad gave me Father’s Day cards, which was completely unexpected.

The drive home once again took less time than the drive out. Wonder why that is always true.
