On Sundays, especially when there’s nothing to eat at the house (like today), we tend to take the kids out to lunch. We used to go to Max & Erma’s a lot, but their $8 burgers are priced a little steeply. Today we’re at Red Robin, which is another place that sells only hamburgers.

Riley seems content to play with his kid’s coloring mat, even if he’s not coloring on it. Berta and Abby try to color Red (that’s the bird’s name).

I had a BBQ chicken sandwich, which was ok, but the crazy thing about grilled chicken is that unless you grill it just right, the outside gets too tough be be bite-ready. So you end up trying to take a single bit, and the whole bird comes out of the sandwich. That’s not good. Thankfully, the chicken in my sandwich was mostly good, except for the last few bites.

Red Robin’s barbecue doesn’t compare favorably to Max & Erma’s. But they get points for the tasty onion straws they put on the sandwich.

No, sorry – pickles do not belong on a barbecue burger.
